Caching Techniques for High-Performance Web Map Services
نویسندگان
چکیده
The demand for digital maps on the Internet has increased considerably in the last few years. Therefore the performance of Web Mapping Services is becoming more and more important. This article introduces different caching techniques for high performance transfer of data using standardized OGC Web Map Services (WMS). It describes and examines different caching mechanisms based on tile caching, reverse proxy caching and web application acceleration. Furthermore it demonstrates benefits, problems and how data needs to be modified for different caching techniques. The article outlines the advantages of WMS caching systems and investigates the behaviour of these systems with an increasing number of concurrent requests using benchmarking tests. This includes the examination of applicability of the INSPIRE level of service agreement (SLA) for view services.

متن کاملImprove Replica Placement in Content Distribution Networks with Hybrid Technique
The increased using of the Internet and its accelerated growth leads to reduced network bandwidth and the capacity of servers; therefore, the quality of Internet services is unacceptable for users while the efficient and effective delivery of content on the web has an important role to play in improving performance. Content distribution networks were introduced to address this issue. Replicatin...
متن کاملUsing Performance Maps to Understand the Behavior of Web Caching Policies
One of the most important differences between traditional caching and Web caching is the high variability of the size of Web objects. As a consequence of that variability, we use two metrics to assess performance of Web caching replacement policies: hit ratio (HR) and byte hit ratio (BHR). This paper presents an analytical model relating these two performance metrics. We show that the relation ...
متن کاملLye: High-performance Soap with Multi-level Caching
Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) is a dominant enabling technology in the field of web services. Web services demand high performance, security and extensibility. SOAP, being based on Extensible Markup Language (XML), inherits not only the advantages of XML, but its relatively poor performance. This makes SOAP a poor choice for many high-performance web services. In this paper, we present n...

The Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) [1] is an emerging technology in the field of web services. Web services demand high performance, security and extensibility. SOAP, being based on Extensible Markup Language [2], together with the advantages of XML, however, has a relatively poor performance, which makes SOAP a bad choice for high performance demanding web services. In this paper, we ana...
